Julian was born in Los Angeles and raised in West Auckland, arriving in Tāmaki Makaurau at age two. Following in his parents’ footsteps, he found his calling in filmmaking early on. His journey began as a Lighting Trainee on a feature film, where he caught the “film bug” and never looked back.

When the industry slowed during Covid, Julian leaned into his passion for lighting, using the downtime to build his kit just as the LED revolution took hold. This drive launched him into Gaffing, where he’s since made a name for himself with a sharp eye and innovative approach.

While lighting is his core, Julian has recently developed a natural affinity for Gripping, seamlessly weaving it into his lighting work whenever possible. His sets are known for their energy, professionalism, and calm under pressure.

Recognized as one of Aotearoa’s rising technical talents, Julian is as committed to the craft as he is to the community—mentoring emerging filmmakers and striving to lift the next generation alongside him.
